The benefits of properly lubricated industrial parts

site-198416_640

One of the most important things you can do to maintain the condition and functionality of machinery and its internal components is to make sure it is adequately lubricated. Lubrication is important as it essentially reduces the fiction between moving parts. Without the proper lubrication of essential industrial parts such as Sirem gearboxes, Planox gearboxes, Desch couplings and Berges speed belts, parts are much more prone to become overheated and malfunction with catastrophic failure occurring.

Though as Machinery Lubrication advises, reducing friction and subsequently reducing heat are just two reasons it is essential to adequately lubricate industrial components.

To prevent particles rubbing off

Without any lubrication to ‘soften the friction’, when objects rub against one another, pieces of material can break off. This creates smaller abrasive particles, which in turn cause more pieces to break off, more abrasive particles to occur, resulting in a vicious cycle of damage, which eventually leads to failure of the parts.

Ensuring there is always a film of lubrication present on the surface of the moving parts will act as a barrier against this otherwise virtually inevitable deterioration of internal components.

Helps to prevent corrosion

The majority of places we store and operate industrial machinery is affected by humidity. When it comes into contact with metal this combination of water and air can result in corrosion, which, as we all know, can be detrimental to the performance of machinery.

Lubricating components can help prevent humidity-induced corrosion being created. This is primarily due to the fact that lubricants contain additives used for contamination control that prevents the metal surface of parts coming into contact with water. This thwarts the creation of rust and therefore helps to prevent corrosion taking place and keeps the parts in good working order.

As we wrote in a blog about gearbox lubrication, regularly operating the likes of Pujol heated units, Heynau gearboxes and Sirem gear motors whilst dry is asking for problems to arise. Not only is it essential to regularly lubricate industrial parts such as gearboxes, but it is important to use the right kind of lubrication for the specific part.

It is also important to remember that many industrial machinery and parts is often shipped dry without any lubrication for the primary reason, oil is heavy and makes the package much heavier and expensive to ship.

If you have a gearbox that needs repairing or you need to locate and replace an industrial part, YB Component’s offer a gearbox repair service and have a wide range of essential industrial parts in stock.
